DokuBaku International documentary film festival calls for submissions

The 10th DokuBaku International Documentary Film Festival will be held from October 5 to 11 and has announced its call for submissions. Marking its 10th anniversary, the festival will be held under the theme “Stellar Civilization.”

The Azerbaijan Cinematographers Union (AKİ) told AZERTAC that the concept of “stellar civilization” addresses coexistence with the planet, other life forms, and the unknown, alongside human relationships. The festival invites documentaries exploring both “upward” and “inward” perspectives – focusing on planetary consciousness, science and space, ecological memory, invisible histories, ancestral knowledge, and speculative futures.

In this context, cinema serves as both a telescope and a mirror, allowing audiences to observe the infinity of the universe and reflect on humanity’s place within it. The festival promotes a vision of civilization based on awareness, responsibility, and care rather than conquest.

Submissions will be accepted until June 13. Filmmakers can submit their works through the following link: https://filmfreeway.com/DBIDFF .

As Azerbaijan’s first independent documentary film festival, DokuBaku supports filmmaking through local and international screenings, master classes, and workshops with global experts. The event aims to develop documentary cinema in Azerbaijan as a means of self-expression and thought, nurture local directors, discover new talent, enhance international cooperation, and contribute to the sustainable development of the national film industry. The Azerbaijan Cinematographers Union continues its collaboration with DokuBaku and traditionally presents various initiatives during the festival.
