As part of his visit to the Vatican, Ramin Mammadov, Chairman of Azerbaijan's State Committee on Affairs with Religious Associations, met with Giovanni Cesare Pagazzi on July 9.
The meeting highlighted that mutual respect and a shared commitment to universal values provide a solid foundation for relations between Azerbaijan and the Holy See.
The sides noted that the foreign policy course established by National Leader Heydar Aliyev and successfully continued by President Ilham Aliyev has created favorable conditions for expanding bilateral cooperation. They also emphasized that projects implemented by the Heydar Aliyev Foundation under the leadership of First Vice President Mehriban Aliyeva to preserve the world's cultural heritage in the Vatican and promote intercivilizational dialogue have made an important contribution to strengthening friendship and mutual trust.
Ramin Mammadov described the preservation of multicultural values as one of the Azerbaijani state's top priorities. He said the strong partnership between Azerbaijan and the Vatican provides a solid basis for expanding humanitarian cooperation, advancing interreligious dialogue, and implementing new joint projects. In this regard, he underscored the importance of maintaining direct contacts.
Recalling his visit to Azerbaijan with appreciation, Archbishop Giovanni Cesare Pagazzi praised the country's atmosphere of tolerance and its rich historical and cultural heritage. He expressed confidence that Azerbaijan-Vatican relations, based on mutual trust, would continue to develop steadily across the humanitarian, scientific, and cultural spheres.
The meeting also reviewed events and joint projects marking the 35th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Azerbaijan and the Holy See.
