Garabagh carpet unveiled in Peru, showcasing Azerbaijan’s cultural heritage

The “Khatai-Ajdahali” carpet was unveiled at the Lima Metropolitan Museum to mark the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Azerbaijan and Peru. Donated by the Azerbaijani Embassy, the carpet will be permanently exhibited at the museum, showcasing Azerbaijan’s rich cultural heritage and traditional carpet-weaving art.

Azerbaijani Ambassador to Mexico and concurrently accredited to Peru, Seymur Fataliyev, noted that bilateral relations, established on June 25, 1996, had developed across political, parliamentary, and cultural spheres.

The ambassador emphasized that the “Khatai-Ajdahali” carpet, which belongs to the Garabagh school of carpet weaving and was donated to the museum with the support of Azerbaijan’s National Commission for UNESCO, embodies the nation’s rich cultural heritage and ancient artistic traditions.

Lima Mayor Fabiola María Morales Castillo said the carpet’s permanent display would promote Azerbaijani culture and strengthen friendship between the two countries.

A conference highlighted the artistic features and symbolism of Garabagh carpets, as well as their role in Azerbaijan’s cultural heritage. The event also featured Azerbaijani music, cuisine, and tourism videos, while the Heydar Aliyev Foundation’s publication Azerbaijani Carpets was presented to Lima City Hall.

The carpet’s permanent exhibition is expected to promote Azerbaijan’s traditional carpet-weaving art and deepen cultural ties between Azerbaijan and Peru.
