Azerbaijan showcases its culture at Turkish Festival in Washington

The 24th annual Turkish Festival in Washington, D.C., attracted thousands of visitors, showcasing the cultures, music, dances and cuisine of Türkiye, Azerbaijan and other Turkic peoples.

Azerbaijan was prominently represented, with Azerbaijani musicians performing as part of a concert programme organized by the Azerbaijan House. Singers Günay Guliyeva, Zaur Jalil and Bahruz Farrukhi, along with DJ Bazaur, entertained audiences, with Azerbaijani music drawing both community members and international guests to the dance floor.

Zaur Jalil, one of the Azerbaijani performers, said he was delighted to bring Azerbaijani music to the heart of Washington. He noted that performing on the Day of Restoration of Azerbaijan’s Independence was especially meaningful to him.

Azerbaijani cuisine also attracted many visitors, who sampled traditional dishes and learned about the country’s culture and heritage.

Nigar Mustafayeva, who has Down syndrome, presented her handmade jewellery at the festival for the fifth consecutive year. Her bracelets and necklaces, crafted from natural stones and incorporating the colors of the Azerbaijani flag, drew visitors’ attention. Her father said her creations were popular in the United States and that the event offered an opportunity to showcase both her talent and Azerbaijan’s national values.

Through its music, cuisine and handicrafts, Azerbaijan brought its cultural spirit to Washington, promoting its heritage among American audiences.
