On December 4, Azerbaijan’s Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov met with Kaja Kallas, High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of the European Commission, on the sidelines of the 32nd Ministerial Council meeting of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) in Vienna.
During the meeting, they discussed the current state and prospects of the Azerbaijan–European Union (EU) cooperation agenda. The parties hailed the increasing dynamics of high-level contacts in recent times and emphasized the importance of ensuring the continuity and productivity of this dynamic.
The significance of intensifying efforts and dialogue within existing mechanisms between the sides was highlighted.
They also exchanged views on activities aimed at expanding cooperation in the areas of energy security, transport and communications, and trade and economic relations.
Azerbaijan’s role in the EU’s energy security and its contributions in this framework were highly appreciated, and projects in renewable energy sources, energy efficiency, and electricity export were reviewed.
The importance of steps taken to enhance and diversify the transport and communication potential of the region - through expanding infrastructure opportunities along existing routes and creating new ones - was noted.
FM Jeyhun Bayramov briefed Kaja Kallas on regional security issues, post-conflict realities in the South Caucasus, Azerbaijan’s activities to ensure lasting peace and stability, as well as the latest developments and Azerbaijan’s expectations regarding the peace agenda pursued by the country.
The sides also discussed other bilateral and regional issues of mutual interest.
