Harsh response from Kurtulmuş to the allegations of the Greek Cypriot representative at the Conference of Speakers of European Parliaments
Numan Kurtulmuş, the President of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (GNAT), responded harshly to the Greek Cypriot representative who claimed that "Turkey is an occupier in Cyprus and Azerbaijan is an occupier in Karabakh" at the European Conference of Heads of Parliament held in Dublin, the capital of Ireland.

Kurtulmuş, regarding the untrue words of Annita Demetriou, President of the House of Representatives of the Greek Cypriot Administration of Southern Cyprus, who took the floor before him, claiming that 'Turks are occupiers', said: "If we come to the Cyprus issue. There is an occupation in Cyprus, it is true. The occupier in Cyprus is not Turkey, it is the occupation of the Greek Cypriot side, which abolished the legal Republic of Cyprus established in 1960 and occupied the Republic. Of course, Turkey, as a guarantor country, could not and did not remain a spectator to the elimination of the Republic of Cyprus by pro-Enosis groups."

AZERBAIJAN'S VICTORY IN KARABAKH

Regarding Azerbaijan's Karabakh Victory, Kurtulmuş said, "We understand, appreciate and fully support Azerbaijan's sensitivity to liberate its own lands in the face of Armenia's 33-year occupation of Karabakh." Kurtulmuş stated that as a result of the helplessness of all international initiatives against the 33-year occupation, Azerbaijan was left with no other way and Karabakh was liberated with a 44-day war.

"Karabakh will be in the hands of the Azerbaijani people as Azerbaijani land until the Day of Judgement," Kurtulmuş said, underlining that this was not an occupation, but a people's liberation of their own land.  Kurtulmuş pointed out that some people are trying to damage and eliminate the peace that the six-party alliance including Azerbaijan, Turkey, Russia, Iran, Armenia and Georgia is trying to establish in the Caucasus and said, "The peace to be achieved between Azerbaijan and Armenia in Karabakh is in favour of all the peoples of the region, especially these two countries. The opening of the Zengezur Corridor is never on the initiative of one country, but for the benefit of all the peoples of the region, and we wish it to be so."
