Anacláudia Rossbach: Successful housing reforms are based on domestic financing

“Countries that have successfully addressed their housing problems have done so through domestic financing. Countries that are unable to mobilize or develop their domestic financial systems, however, do not effectively engage in addressing housing issues,” said Anacláudia Rossbach, Executive Director of UN-Habitat, in her remarks at the panel session titled “Housing at the Center of Crisis Recovery and Reconstruction” held as part of WUF13.

The executive director stressed that in some countries people are unable to receive support and become fragmented, describing it as a structural problem. She stressed that humanitarian planning must focus on strengthening social capital and communities in order to address such challenges.
