The Kenyan Ministry of Health reported that the number of Ebola cases in the country has risen to 8.
Kenya's Director General of Health, Patrick Amoth, announced that a 49-year-old caregiver at Nairobi Hospital tested positive for Ebola following 38 tests conducted yesterday. The patient, who was tested due to complaints of fever, headache, and muscle pain, was found to have been in contact with the country's first case and has been isolated. With the latest case, the total number of confirmed cases in Kenya has reached 8.
Providing information on the health status of current patients, Amoth stated that all individuals diagnosed with the virus are receiving monoclonal antibody treatment and are responding positively to the treatment. It was noted that a new shipment of drugs from Rwanda has arrived to support the treatment processes. The first case in the country was confirmed on October 6; following the first patient who died on October 5 after arriving from the Democratic Republic of the Congo, 128 out of 130 contacts were quarantined. Among those infected are relatives of the first patient and healthcare workers.
In the Democratic Republic of the Congo, the outbreak's origin, more than 9,400 cases have been recorded since May, with the death toll exceeding 4,500. With the virus recently spreading to the Nord-Ubangi province, the number of provinces affected by the outbreak in the country has risen to 8.
