Azerbaijan’s Energy Minister emphasizes continued diversification policy during meeting with bp Regional President

Minister of Energy Parviz Shahbazov has met with Giovanni Cristofoli, bp’s Regional President for Azerbaijan, Georgia, and Türkiye.

The meeting focused on the progress of joint projects in the oil, gas, and renewable energy sectors under the strategic partnership with bp, as well as future cooperation prospects. Within this framework, the sides reviewed ongoing efforts to maintain stable production at the Azeri-Chirag-Gunashli (ACG) field, the integration of new technologies, and the enhancement of operational efficiency.

The discussion also covered activities at the Shah Deniz field, the development of the Shah Deniz Compression project, and updates on the first gas extraction from the ACG non-associated natural gas project. The parties evaluated the development of the Shafag-Asiman, Garabagh, and Babek fields, noting that these initiatives will significantly bolster the country’s gas export capacity.

Furthermore, the meeting reviewed the electrification of offshore platforms and the Sangachal Terminal, alongside the roadmap to commission the Shafaq Solar Power Plant by 2027.

Addressing global energy market trends, the officials emphasized the priority of energy security and the vital importance of diversifying sources, routes, and supplies. It was noted that while renewable energy is expanding rapidly, hydrocarbons continue to represent a major share of global consumption and will remain essential for the foreseeable future. Minister Shahbazov reaffirmed that Azerbaijan is consistently advancing its diversification policy across the oil, gas, power, and green energy sectors.

The meeting concluded by stressing the importance of expanding mutually beneficial cooperation to strengthen regional energy security and further solidify Azerbaijan’s standing as an international energy hub.
