Wooden boat found capsized off Ishikawa Pref. may be from N. Korea

A wooden boat that may have come from North Korea was found capsized and drifting in the Sea of Japan off Ishikawa Prefecture, Kyodo reported citing a local coast guard office.

A patrol vessel received a report and found the boat off Shika in the prefecture at around 8:25 p.m. on Tuesday. The boat, about 12 meters in length, had a coal tar-like coating on its underside and letters and numbers resembling Hangul on its hull.

Separately, local police said a passerby found a body of a man about 170 meters tall on a Shika beach at around 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

The body had no visual injuries and police are investigating whether the body is linked to the wooden boat.
