UN official: Convention on the Rights of the Child has already been ratified by 196 States

All states must play a leading role in protecting children's rights. Without government leadership, it is impossible to achieve sustainable outcomes for children. However, states cannot act alone. Effective progress requires close cooperation with international organizations, the private sector, civil society, academia, and children, said Sopio Kiladze, Chairperson of the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child (CRC) during the conference dedicated to the protection of children in the digital environment and international cooperation.

Noting that the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child serves as the main mechanism for the international monitoring of children’s rights, Sopio Kiladze added: “The Committee oversees the implementation of the Convention on the Rights of the Child and its Optional Protocols, which have already been ratified by 196 States.”
