Tom Barrack, the U.S. Ambassador to Ankara and Special Representative for Syria, made a statement on his social media account regarding his new appointment by U.S. President Donald Trump. In his post, Barrack noted that President Trump's direct relationships with regional leaders have been effective, stating, “I am honored to accept the title of Special Representative under his bold leadership. I am honored to serve Donald Trump, who has achieved what none of his predecessors could in the Middle East.”
Barrack claimed that U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio has 'significantly changed the paradigm of American foreign policy in the region.' Barrack noted that the U.S.-based balance of power understanding would work best if regional allies take on more responsibility and increase cooperation among themselves, stating, “This should occur within a framework that protects U.S. interests, regional stability, and fundamental strategic objectives.”
