Hotel Fire in India: 9 Dead
In a hotel fire in Kolkata, the capital of West Bengal state in eastern India, 9 people, including 5 Bangladeshi citizens, lost their lives, and many were injured.

A fire broke out on the second floor of a hotel located on Mirza Ghalib Street in Kolkata, the capital of West Bengal state in India, at around 02:50 for reasons yet to be determined. The rapidly spreading flames and thick smoke engulfing the building caused panic in the hotel. The fire was brought under control and extinguished with the intervention of fire and rescue teams dispatched to the area upon notification. Approximately 80 people were evacuated from the hotel, and it was reported that 9 people, including 2 women and 1 child, lost their lives in the fire, while many others were injured.

In a statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Bangladesh, it was stated that 5 of the deceased were Bangladeshi citizens, and 4 of them were from the same family. It was noted that 6 Bangladeshis, who were in Kolkata for medical treatment and were injured, were discharged after initial treatment at the hospital.

While investigations continue in the area, initial findings suggest that the fire may have been caused by an electrical short circuit. It was noted that a comprehensive investigation has been launched with a team of 5 people regarding the incident.
