Ballistic missile attack from Russia on Kiev: 15 dead, 33 injured
It was reported that 15 people died and 33 were injured in the missile attack on Kiev, the capital of Ukraine. Kiev Mayor Vitaliy Klitschko announced that August 21 has been declared a day of mourning in the city.

Kiev Mayor Vitaliy Klitschko announced on his social media account that the capital was targeted with ballistic missiles and that the damage was concentrated in the Solomyanskyi, Svyatoshynskyi, and Darnytskyi districts of the city. Klitschko stated that 15 people lost their lives and 33 were injured in the attacks, with the highest number of casualties recorded in the Solomyanskyi district, where 8 people died. Klitschko reported that the treatment of 18 injured people is ongoing in hospitals.

Providing information on the extent of the destruction in the city following the attacks, Klitschko noted that the upper floors of a 9-story residential building in the Solomyanskyi district were destroyed and caught fire, and a children's hospital and a school were damaged. Klitschko stated that the windows of the hospital building were shattered and vehicles in its yard caught fire; in the Svyatoshynskyi and Darnytskyi districts, warehouses and non-residential buildings were damaged. It was also stated that power outages occurred in parts of the Solomyanskyi and Svyatoshynskyi districts due to the attacks.


Announcing that mourning was declared in the city in memory of those who lost their lives in the attack, Klitschko said, “August 21 has been declared a day of mourning in Kiev. In this context, flags on all public buildings in the city will be lowered to half-mast and all entertainment events will be banned.”

It was reported that search and rescue and debris removal operations are ongoing in the region.
